Civil servants in Rivers State call for quick renovation of state secretariat

Buckets and basins are now being used to prevent rainwater from further damaging office equipment and the structure of some buildings at the Rivers State Secretariat due to leaking roofs.

A civil servant who spoke anonymously to our correspondent said he fears that Blocks A, B, and C of the secretariat complex may collapse if the planned renovation by the State Government is not given urgent attention. He said leakages from the roofs of Blocks A, B, and C not only affect the seventh floor but also run down to parts of the ground floor. Meanwhile, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Civil Service Union, Mr. Chukwuka Osuma, has appealed for the immediate kickstart of government renovation.

Osuma urged the State Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, to focus his last days on renovating the secretariat complex. He further advised the suspended governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to prioritise the completion process when reinstated.
