Rivers State Governor Sacks All Commissioners and Public Officers

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has sacked all commissioners and public officers in the state with immediate effect. The announcement was contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday evening by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi. According to the governor, the decision followed the recent Supreme Court judgment.

During a valedictory session with his cabinet to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, Fubara thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the state over the last two years. He also called on Nigerians to work with President Bola Tinubu to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous country, while reiterating his renewed commitment to serve the state.

The governor’s statement added that the termination of appointments applied to all commissioners and other public officers affected by the Supreme Court judgment. He also extended appreciation to citizens of Rivers State for their continued support and wished the nation a happy Independence anniversary.

It will be recalled that former State Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.), on assumption of office, had earlier suspended Fubara’s cabinet members and dissolved all boards and parastatals following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state. The latest decision by Governor Fubara formally ends the uncertainty over the fate of his commissioners and appointees.
