Relief may soon come to several communities in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State as the Council Chairman, Charles Wobodo, has pledged to restore electricity to areas that have been in darkness for over four years.
Wobodo made the announcement during the inauguration of newly appointed political aides at the Council Secretariat in Isiokpo. He said the initiative, tagged the “Light Up Ikwerre Project,” is designed to revive businesses and stimulate economic growth across the local government area.
According to him, the project will be executed in phases to ensure steady and sustainable power restoration. He also cautioned residents against vandalising public infrastructure, warning that those caught sabotaging the effort would face strict penalties. 
In addition, the Council Chairman revealed plans to employ 300 people under a Community Social Work Programme, which aims to provide job opportunities across various communities.
Wobodo further announced a ban on scavengers and cart pushers within the area, alleging that many of them have been linked to criminal activities.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving security and promoting economic development for residents of Ikwerre Local Government Area.
