Fubara Denies Rift With Lawmakers, Commissions 28.4km Ahoada–Omoku Road

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed claims of a rift between him and federal or state lawmakers from the state, describing the reports as baseless.

Speaking on Wednesday during the commissioning of the extended and dualised 28.4-kilometre Ahoada–Omoku Road, Governor Fubara said suggestions that he had been avoiding the lawmakers were false. He explained that plans were already in place for a meeting to be convened by former Governor and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, alongside elder statesman Ferdinand Alabraba and other leaders.

Governor Fubara, who defected from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday, told supporters that his decision was aimed at restoring peace and ensuring the state’s continued development, rather than pursuing personal political interests.

He also highlighted the significance of the newly commissioned road, stating that it was a campaign promise intended to stimulate economic activities in the area.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, the extension of the dualisation of the 25.4-kilometre Ahoada–Omoku dual carriageway was awarded to Julius Berger in 2023 at a cost of N48.9 billion.
