The continued delay by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara in forwarding a fresh list of commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for confirmation has continued to attract public reactions.
Governor Fubara last submitted a list of nine commissioner nominees to the Assembly in March 2026. While five nominees were screened and confirmed, four were rejected for various reasons. Four months later, no replacement nominees have been sent to the legislature, leaving several ministries without substantive political heads.
Reacting to the development, elder statesman Anabs Saraigbe attributed the delay to what he described as the political influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. 
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, Saraigbe alleged that the FCT Minister is seeking to determine who occupies key political positions in Rivers State.
He further claimed that democratic governance in the state has been undermined, alleging that Rivers State has been politically captured by the FCT Minister with the backing of the Federal Government.
Saraigbe called on the people of Rivers State to make informed political decisions in future elections, arguing that the current political leadership has failed to meet the expectations of the people.
The Rivers State Government and the Office of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory have not publicly responded to the allegations.
