Asari Dokubo Denies Human Rights Abuse Allegations Against Amama Soldiers

The Amanyanabo of Torusarama Piri in Elem Kalabari, Alhaji Mujahid Asari Dokubo, has dismissed allegations that the Amama Soldiers, a local security group operating in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State under his leadership, are involved in human rights abuses.

Speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info FM’s Morning Crossfire programme, Dokubo described the allegations as a deliberate attempt to discredit the group’s activities. He maintained that the Amama Soldiers have remained committed to safeguarding the Kalabari Kingdom, Rivers State, and Nigeria while respecting the rights of citizens.

According to him, the incident that sparked the allegations occurred after some individuals allegedly defied directives not to use a federal highway, resulting in a violent confrontation.

Dokubo also claimed that some of the individuals involved in the incident have been seen wearing military-style uniforms resembling those of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He further alleged that they had issued threats against members of the Kalabari community, including himself.

The traditional ruler insisted that the Amama Soldiers operate within the law and rejected claims linking the group to any form of human rights violations.
