Argentina produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat England 2-1 and secure a place in the men’s World Cup final, ending England’s hopes of reaching their first final since lifting the trophy in 1966.
Thomas Tuchel’s side looked set for victory after Anthony Gordon gave England the lead in the 55th minute, finishing from a pinpoint cross by Morgan Rogers at the far post.
However, the defending champions responded in style. Enzo Fernandez restored parity with a stunning long-range strike five minutes from full time before Lautaro Martinez headed home the winning goal in stoppage time from a precise cross by Lionel Messi. 
The thrilling semi-final, played in a tense atmosphere at Atlanta Stadium, was fiercely contested from the opening whistle, with numerous fouls disrupting the flow of the first half.
Argentina created several chances before the breakthrough, with Jordan Pickford making a superb save to deny Nico Gonzalez, while Alexis Mac Allister struck the woodwork as England came under sustained pressure.
Despite England’s disciplined defensive setup, Argentina’s relentless attacking display eventually paid off. Fernandez’s equaliser shifted the momentum firmly in the South Americans’ favour, and after Mac Allister hit the post again, Martinez sealed victory in the 92nd minute with a decisive header.
Argentina will now face Spain in Sunday’s World Cup final as they aim to successfully defend their title, while England will take on France in the third-place play-off.
