The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it will recognise only the candidates submitted by the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election.
INEC National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed that the commission has already received nominations for 471 elective positions from the David Mark-led faction of the party.
According to Haruna, the commission granted the faction access to its candidate nomination portal following a Supreme Court judgment that affirmed its leadership. He stated that the rival faction has no legal authority to submit candidates through the commission’s portal. 
Meanwhile, the ADC has called for the investigation and prosecution of its factional leader, Nafiu Gombe, over claims that he uploaded the party’s candidates for the 2027 elections through INEC’s nomination portal.
The party’s demand follows INEC’s clarification that reports alleging Gombe successfully submitted candidates on behalf of the ADC were false, reinforcing the commission’s position that only the David Mark-led leadership is recognised for the purpose of candidate nominations.
