Immigration Service Assures Nigerians of Tight Border Controls Amid Ebola Concerns

The Nigeria Immigration Service has dismissed concerns that the country’s land borders could become entry points for the Ebola virus currently affecting parts of Central and East Africa.

Responding to public anxiety over the outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, the Service maintained that Nigeria’s borders are under strict surveillance and control.

According to spokesperson Akinsola Akinlabi, all official border entry points are manned by trained personnel, while additional digital surveillance systems have been deployed to monitor routes that may not be easily covered physically.

He emphasized that every individual entering the country through land borders is properly screened and documented, with mandatory checks including valid travel documents and international health certificates.

The assurance comes amid heightened regional vigilance, as authorities work to prevent any potential cross-border spread of the virus and safeguard public health.
