The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Command, has rolled out a statewide deployment of personnel and equipment for its 2026 Easter special patrol, aimed at ensuring safer travel during the festive season.
Acting Sector Commander, DCC Iheanachor Ubele, disclosed that the operation will run from April 1 to April 8, with a focus on reducing road crashes, fatalities, and injuries, while keeping major highways free of congestion.
According to him, the Easter period usually records a surge in vehicular movement as residents travel to celebrate, prompting the Corps to intensify efforts to manage traffic and curb violations such as speeding, reckless driving, overloading, and the use of mobile phones while driving. 
As part of the operation, the FRSC will increase patrol presence, maintain round-the-clock surveillance on key routes, and strategically position rescue teams, ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles, and motorbikes for rapid emergency response. Public awareness campaigns will also be stepped up to sensitize motorists and other road users on safe driving practices.
The Command further noted that it is working in collaboration with other security and emergency agencies, including the Police, DSS, NSCDC, Fire Service, NEMA, and relevant state authorities, to ensure effective coordination and swift response to incidents.
Ubele expressed concern over the growing trend of reckless driving among youths, especially convoy driving at high speeds, which has contributed to recent accidents in Port Harcourt. He warned that such actions will not be condoned, stressing that violators will face prosecution.
Motorists were advised to obey traffic rules and make use of FRSC offices or toll-free lines to report emergencies.
The Corps reiterated its commitment to road safety and wished residents a peaceful and accident-free Easter celebration.
