Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi is set to become just the fourth player in Nigeria’s football history to earn 100 international caps for the Super Eagles.
Iwobi, who heads into an international friendly against Portugal national football team with 99 appearances, will reach the landmark century if he features in the match.
Only three players have previously achieved this feat for Nigeria: Ahmed Musa, Joseph Yobo, and Vincent Enyeama. 
A decade-long journey
Iwobi made his Super Eagles debut in 2015 as a teenager, marking the beginning of a remarkable international career that has spanned over a decade. Born in England, the 30-year-old faced a defining choice early in his career but ultimately committed to representing Nigeria—a decision he has repeatedly said he does not regret.
Joining elite company
Each member of Nigeria’s centurion club has left a lasting legacy. Musa, the country’s most capped player, became a symbol of attacking consistency across multiple World Cup campaigns. Yobo, a former captain, was a commanding presence in defence, while Enyeama earned widespread recognition as one of Africa’s finest goalkeepers.
Iwobi, who developed through Arsenal FC’s academy before establishing himself in the Premier League, has brought creativity and versatility to Nigeria’s midfield, offering a different dimension compared to his predecessors.
The friendly against Portugal also serves as a key test for the Super Eagles as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, giving the coaching staff valuable insight into the team’s tactical readiness and player performance against top-level opposition.
