The House of Representatives is expected to vote later today on a constitutional amendment bill proposing the establishment of state police across Nigeria.
Deputy Speaker and Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, Benjamin Kalu, has called on lawmakers to be present at plenary and actively participate in the voting process. He described the bill as a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to reform the nation’s constitution.
Nigeria currently operates a centralized policing system controlled by the Federal Government, and the proposed amendment is seen as a move toward decentralizing security operations to address growing concerns over safety and local enforcement.
