The build-up to the 2027 general elections is gathering pace within the African Democratic Congress as prominent figures step forward to declare their presidential ambitions.
Former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, has formally entered the race after obtaining the party’s presidential nomination form at its national headquarters in Abuja. His move signals a return to frontline politics and is being seen by supporters as a significant development ahead of the party’s primaries.
Amaechi, who previously served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor from 2007 to 2015, and later Minister of Transportation under former President Muhammadu Buhari, is expected to bring considerable political experience to the contest. 
He joins economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who earlier became the first aspirant to obtain the ADC presidential nomination form. The form was presented to him at the party’s secretariat by the National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo.
Party stakeholders say the early declarations reflect growing interest in the ADC as a platform ahead of 2027. Hayatu-Deen, speaking after picking up his form, pledged to abide by the party’s decision regarding the mode of primary, signaling readiness for a transparent and competitive process.
With multiple aspirants already positioning themselves, the ADC appears set for a potentially competitive primary season that could shape its prospects in the next presidential election.
