Residents of Rumuokparali New Layout in Ozuoba are raising alarm over worsening flooding in the area, linking the situation to ongoing construction work on the Port Harcourt Ring Road.
According to the affected residents, heavy rainfall in recent days has left streets submerged, with floodwater spilling into homes and compounds—an experience they insist is new to the community.
They attribute the problem to construction activities by Julius Berger, alleging that the company blocked an existing drainage channel and manhole system, thereby disrupting the natural flow of water.
Residents say the blockage has made it difficult for rainwater to drain properly, resulting in repeated flooding whenever it rains. Many expressed frustration, noting that the area had not faced such challenges prior to the commencement of the road project.
They are now calling on the Rivers State Government to intervene urgently by directing the construction firm to restore the drainage system and prevent further damage to property.
The situation highlights growing concerns over the environmental impact of major infrastructure projects and the need for proper drainage planning in rapidly developing urban areas.
