Rights Advocate Slams APC Over ‘Arbitrary’ Disqualification of Aspirants

The Executive Director of the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights, Jackson Omenazu, has faulted the All Progressives Congress over the disqualification of some aspirants in its ongoing primary processes.

In an interview, Omenazu questioned the constitutional basis for the exclusions, alleging that the party’s screening committee is operating without clear and consistent guidelines. He described the situation as a “growing pattern” of arbitrary decisions that risk undermining internal party democracy.

According to him, such actions amount to what he termed “exclusionary democracy,” warning that they could weaken public confidence in the broader electoral system if left unchecked.

He further argued that beyond limiting participation, the disqualifications may also damage the reputations and political prospects of affected aspirants, especially where no transparent justification is provided.

Omenazu called on political parties to uphold democratic principles in their internal processes, stressing that fairness, accountability, and adherence to constitutional provisions are essential for credible elections.
