The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has used the graduation of newly retrained officers to draw a clear line on discipline and professionalism within the Force, signaling a shift toward stricter accountability.
At the passing-out ceremony of 1,068 constables held at 26 PMF Mobile Base, the police chief emphasized that the exercise represents more than a routine programme. Instead, it marks the beginning of a deliberate effort to reform standards, sharpen operational capacity, and rebuild public confidence in policing.
Disu stressed that the future of policing in Nigeria depends on competence and restraint, warning that officers who fail to meet professional expectations will no longer be tolerated. He drew a sharp contrast between poorly trained personnel and disciplined officers, noting that the latter remain essential to maintaining public trust and safety. 
The retraining initiative is part of a broader push by the police leadership to reposition the Force, with a focus on modern skills, ethical conduct, and responsible use of authority. The message from the top is clear: the institution is moving toward a culture where performance and professionalism take precedence over impunity.
