Swift Police Action in Rivers Leads to Arrest in Teen Abuse Case

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of a teenage girl in the Rukpokwu area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Blessing Agabe said the arrest was carried out by officers attached to the Special Area Division in Rumudomaya after the case was formally reported by the victim’s family.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred on May 4, when the suspect—identified as Goodnews—allegedly lured the girl, a neighbour who resides in the same compound, into his apartment where the offence reportedly took place.

Following the complaint, officers moved swiftly to apprehend the suspect, while the victim was taken to a medical facility for examination and treatment.

The police say investigations are ongoing, adding that the Command remains committed to ensuring justice and protecting vulnerable members of the public.
