The Rivers State Police Command has uncovered what appears to be a coordinated ATM fraud scheme following the arrest of multiple suspects linked to the theft of ₦4.6 million.
According to police spokesperson Blessing Agabe, the arrests were made after a complaint was filed on April 26 by a resident, Rosemary Vincent, who reported suspicious activity involving her domestic staff. Acting on the report, the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, directed a swift investigation that led to the apprehension of several individuals believed to be part of the operation.
Those in custody include Praise Sampson, alongside Michael Chijioke, Ndubuisi Jonah, Ehirim Ugonna, Okeke Chizoba, and another suspect identified simply as Daniel. 
Preliminary findings suggest the suspects used deception and coercion as part of their method. Investigators say the domestic worker was allegedly lured into a vehicle under false pretenses and pressured into surrendering two ATM cards belonging to her employer. The cards were subsequently used to withdraw a total of ₦4.6 million.
Authorities believe the group may be connected to a broader pattern of criminal activity within Port Harcourt, raising concerns about the increasing sophistication of such schemes.
In response, the police have issued a public advisory urging residents to heighten their personal security awareness. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of safeguarding banking details, avoiding unfamiliar or suspicious transport, and promptly reporting unusual incidents to law enforcement.
The Command says investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on determining the full extent of the network and preventing further incidents.
